A quick tour...

Dad has asked for another blog post. This is a mini tour of the house, I'll load photos slowly as the internet is slow so check back to see more...
First, is our kitchen/eating area, filled with people for lunch. As its sunny we sit outside too. The food is absolutely delicious. Authentic, and different every day!
Next is our notice board. We get our schedule for the day and people pin up activities that we can join in too.
The view is beautiful, wherever you look on the horizon there are mountains and beauty. It's really relaxing just sitting outside and absorbing the atmosphere.
The girls are encouraged to wear local clothes (salwar Kameez) made up of kurta (tunic), Salwar (baggy trousers) and dupatta (scarf). They are really comfortable and cool which is nice. They are designed to protect the girls modesty, with the dupatta to cover the girls chest. I haven't quite got the grasp of the dupatta, it keeps falling off and flying away!
One of the field workers (Anju) that helps me on my placement is an expert in henna so she did my hand for me. Apparently the darker it is, the more your in-laws like you and mine is really dark! Married women can have it on their feet but I don't want anyone touching my toes!!

The dreaded Delhi Belly!

So we've both been hit. It seems that the whole group is sickly, one by one people are turning grey!
Thankfully it's over quickly! A full days sleep seems to do the trick.
Back to the normal routine today :)

Our first day

So after a lovely couple of days with Lydia and Alan and Julie and Doug we finally left the country on Friday morning around 11am. We had a full day of flying landing in Delhi at 0430 local time (1130ish gmt), we were took straight to the flat we're staying in until Monday and left to sleep for a few hours.
Went for brekkie (supposed to be at 10 but didn't happen until 1130! 'Indian pace') and met with the other volunteers.
Not much will happen over the weekend, but we fly on Monday morning to Dharamsala to start our volunteering proper.
Oh yeah, it's also really hot. 35-40° of hot! Phew!

The Morning After...

Well that was fun!

Thank you so much to everyone who came to our leaving party. The house is still standing, and there doesn't seem to be any lasting damage so Go Team!!! :) It was a great night, having a catch up with people we haven't seen for a while; making plans we've likely forgotten.

For those of you who care:
Denmark won Eurovision with 281 points
Greece (who should have won) came 6th with 152 points.

Going Live!

So after much fiddling and general tweaking the blog is now live! *Applause*

Hopefully we'll be able to update this as often as we can, we can't promise Oscar Wilde but at least you'll know what we're up to.

There's not much to see at the moment but after Saturday there'll be a load of embarrassing photos from our send off! :)
